About Us

Betty Walton, affectionately known in the community as “Mama Betty”, founded Love Our Children, Inc. (LOC) in 1989. Her original mission focused on feeding the homeless and women with children. However, it did not take long for her to realize that much more was needed. LOC today feeds families and individuals in need, as well as providing programs for at-risk children and youth.

As a small girl in Georgia, Betty always had a desire to help the poor, and with the help of her mother grew and delivered her own vegetables to people in need. As a grown woman in Southern California Betty has worked tirelessly to provide assistance and service to many communities including Long Beach, Ontario, Monrovia, Duarte and Pasadena.

Betty graduated from the University of LaVerne, and worked for the Boeing Company, who awarded her their William Allen Award and their Community Service Award for her untiring humanitarian efforts. She has since retired and dedicates all of her time to LOC. Betty has also been awarded the California Legislature’s Outstanding Humanitarian Service Award and Disney Company’s “Ears-To-You” Award.

Betty’s main desire remains to feed the hungry and empower children who otherwise might not have the opportunity to become successful. She believes that together we all can make a difference!
